Designer Casey Jeanne was born in Sandton, Johannesburg in a very hot December of 1989 and grew up on the coast of Ballito, Kwa-Zulu Natal in the years that followed. Since her childhood, she always dreamt of escaping to a world of wonder and pure creativity. Casey Jeanne’s artistry was first noticed at an early age. Cutting up clothing and drawing on walls and in books was a daily regime from the day she learnt how to crawl. “You know that kid who is forever touching everything? Well, that was me! I was forever touching clothing, fabrics, books, and don’t get me started on the stationary. I had discovered texture and that for me, was the beginning of something incredible.”
Textures has always been Casey Jeanne’s focal point and this is evident in her work today. “After many years of discovering new textures, I have finally made a career out of taking these textures and creating something extra-ordinary. At the age of 16, I was gifted my first sewing machine. I still have this machine in the workroom today, after many faithful college days (and nights) and a few wedding dresses later.”
A passion was ignited and there has been no holding back since. Casey studied Fashion & Textiles at the Durban University of Technology, where she received the National Research Foundation Award and completed her Masters degree at the end of 2015.
